R.A.D. Systems

R.A.D. Systems is a network of over 3,000 instructors across the United States and Canada dedicated to giving women viable options of self-defense. The focus of the various courses is avoiding physical confrontation through risk awareness, risk avoidance, risk recognition, and risk reduction.  In cases where one cannot avoid a physical confrontation the objective is to stun and run, to escape.

There are four women's self-defense classes to choose from, Basic, Advanced (including weapons and multiple attacker defenses), Keychain (kuboton or mini flashlight), and Aerosol (pepper spray) defenses.

The Basic Physical Defense System (BPD) is five 3-hour sessions covering basic risk avoidance techniques and simple, but effective physical escape techniques.  It is NOT a martial arts class with a few helpful tips thrown in, but a well-planned, well-evaluated program designed specifically with women in mind, addressing the specific types of attacks commonly used against women, making the most of the specific strengths available to women.  You also get to try out your skills in a safe, controlled environment.

Think you can take me on?

The Advanced Self Defense System is 6 3-hour sessions in addition to the Basic Class that adds weapons defenses and multiple attacker defenses, along with more advanced (more advanced skills, more options) counter-attacks.  This class is all physical and completion of the Basic Class is a must!

The Keychain Defense Option (KDO) was developed in cooperating with Master Takayuki Kubota, the inventor of the kuboton.  When done following completion of the BPD it is 2 2½-hour sessions, or 5 2½-hour sessions without the BPD.   This covers many of the BPD skills using the addition of a kuboton or mini-flashlight.  Test out your skills in simulation!

The Aerosol Defense Option is the same as the KDO, but using pepper spray.  Having pepper spray alone is not enough!  As in any weapon, you need training and practice to use it effectively.  We cover not only use, but choosing an effective spray.   The simple fact is, no pepper spray will disable anybody who is focused on getting you.  Defensive aerosols are good as a deterrent or distraction technique and they sometimes fail to work (my wife’s failed in the simulation for instructor training!).  Then what do you do?  Learn some other options that will work along side the aerosol defense!  Have a go at a live (using inert spray) practice!

You can take a refresher course for any of the classes for FREE with ANY of the over 3,000 instructors across the United States and Canada.

radKIDS

radKIDS is a delightful children's personal safety program that covers many areas of a child's life.  The radKIDS program addresses not only good touch, bad touch, and uncomfortable touch, but also bike safety, gun safety, home safety, good stranger/bad stranger, resisting bullies, and much more!

Unlike many other safety programs, radKIDS does this training hands on.  The students actually practice running away, dialing 911, and giving a description of a potential predator.  The students practice finding a gun and running away and reporting it.  They actually practice the "3-second rule," understanding how close to their parents they need to be when out in public.

We also encourage parent participation in the classes.  Do you have a problem with your children fighting in the back seat?   The parents and children get to swap roles in one of our drills, with the parents fighting in the back seat of the "car."   The look on the child's face when he or she turns around to address the "fight" and has a simulated head-on collision is a keeper for the photo album!  They get to experience the message instead of just being told about it.

This program runs for 5 days, 1 1/2 hours for 5 - 7 year olds and 2 hours for 8 - 10 year olds.  After completing the program you can return for a refresher FREE with any of the over 1,000 instructors nation-wide until the child's 11th birthday.
